My philosophy is encapsulated in my logo, which is based on one of The Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism—The Endless Knot.
In the religious tradition, The Endless Knot symbolizes the mutual
interdependence of doctrine and secular affairs. It also represents
the union of wisdom and method. A parallel can be drawn in my practice
of online learning: Academic research and the everyday practice
of teaching and learning are interdependent. They both draw
from and enrich each other—method informs wisdom, wisdom informs
method.
The knot also represents connection—interweaving ideas, people, technology, and expression of knowledge into practice.
Online teaching and learning can be as engaging,
meaningful, and rewarding as any in-person learning environment.
In learning to effectively use online teaching tools and pedagogies,
an educator can design
online learning environments that go beyond the ability to see
into students' eyes; effective designs can help them connect with
their students' hearts and minds.
