OER Stories

School in Iceland

Katrín is a first year college student in Iceland and is taking a teacher training class in science education. The task her professor gave this week is to create an assignment for the local 12th grade physics class where she is doing her teacher training. The only requirement for the assignment is to integrate the use of OER. Katrín searches an OER repository, locates items that can be re-used, and customizes them for an assignment on Newton’s Law. She adds in a similar requirement for her 12th grade students: after they work together on a collaborative project, her students share back what they created in an OER repository. This assignment engages students in the process of creating and sharing materials for others to remix and build upon.
